Doxford Secret Garden Project
– Local history talk and exhibitions!
Silksworth History is alive and all mapped out at
Silksworth Methodist Church
on Saturday 23rd July 2011 from 1 to 4pm.
The Friends of Doxford Park and Groundwork North East invited history, biographer and blogger Robin Healey from Hertfordshire to bring his extraordinary and unique collection of antique maps to Silksworth Methodist Church as part of the Doxford Secret Garden Project.

These invaluable maps recount the entire history of Old Silksworth and Doxford and were a rare treat to be examined. We were fortunate to enjoy local heritage exhibitions by Silksworth Heritage Group, Sunderland Antiquarians, Herrington Heritage group (and ourselves of course!)
The event was very well attended so a big thank you to everyone for their support!

May we extend a special thank you to Mr Hill for bringing some wonderful maps dating from 1825 that he kindly allowed us to copy, and also to Tom Coates for his donation of photographs taken in Doxford Park: we truly do appreciate this.
Not forgetting a big thank you to John from Donnison for his technical support with the documents.

Doxford Secret Garden is a Heritage Lottery Funded project to uncover the forgotten history of Doxford Park and the lost paradise gardens that once bloomed in the grounds of Doxford House.

Do you have any memories or photos of the park or gardens?
We would love to hear from you if you do.
